RoadmapAzure Communication Services
Azure Communication Services is a set of cloud services and APIs that allow developers to include digital communication capabilities such as voice and video calling, chat, SMS, and e-mail messaging in their applications. Microsoft maintains the platform software and infrastructure behind Communication Services, enabling developers to add communication features with less upfront investment. Typical customers are software vendors or enterprise developers whose applications will communicate with large audiences and who benefit from compatibility with Microsoft Teams and Exchange. (Microsoft itself uses Communication Services in its Dynamics 365 Contact Center service.)
Microsoft will retire Azure Communications Services as a standalone service effective Sept. 30, 2028. Most offerings will cease to be available and no longer function, select others will continue to function only when used with Teams. See the Azure Communications Services Retirement FAQ (Microsoft) for details.
