RoadmapData Box Roadmap
Azure Data Box is a family of physical devices and services that help customers transfer large volumes of data. In addition to the primary use case onboarding large workloads or datasets to Azure, they can also be used to accelerate moving data from Azure, either as part of a disaster recovery scenario or by moving workloads from Azure to on-premises or another cloud.
Product: Data Box
Near Term (2025–2026)
Data Box received a significant update in July 2025 with the introduction of SSD-based models offering higher capacity, better network performance, and lower costs.
The new model continues to roll out to additional regions, with both sizes now available in the US, UK, Canada, EU, US Government, Australia, Japan, and Singapore, and the smaller size in Brazil, UAE, Hong Kong, Switzerland, and Norway.
Data Box Gateway is a mature service that has received no major updates in the last four years.
Long Term (Beyond 2026)
Other than the possible addition of even higher-capacity models and availability in more regions, Data Box is unlikely to get significant improvements. The service is mature and fit for purpose.
