Near Term (Mid-2026–2027)
Microsoft’s IoT strategy is shifting from individual IoT services toward a unified edge platform built around Azure IoT Operations, Azure Arc, Azure Local, security services, and AI. Through 2027, organizations should expect continued investment in industrial connectivity, edge management, local AI processing, and operational security, while older services receive primarily life-cycle and support updates. The direction favors integrated, Kubernetes-based architectures that connect operational technology, cloud services, and AI-driven automation across distributed environments.
