Azure Monitor offers a central platform for organizations to gather, analyze, and act on monitoring data from Azure and non-Azure resources. Tools and APIs offered with Monitor help inform administrators and developers about resource performance to make operational decisions, diagnose problems, and improve code.
Service Overview
Monitor is provided within every Azure subscription; customers are not required to provision it. However, Monitor must be configured to collect data and perform other tasks.
Monitor includes the following:
- A data collection engine that consolidates metrics (such as compute consumption) and logs from sources within and outside of Azure and stores the data in Monitor-provisioned storage
- A query language (called Kusto Query Language [KQL]) and execution environment for performing ad-hoc queries against the collected data
- An alerting engine that uses rules on collected monitoring data to send notifications to administrators and applications
