Azure App Configuration is a service that stores application metadata for applications hosted in Azure or elsewhere. The service helps administrators centrally manage settings across applications, especially those with dispersed components, using the Azure portal or command-line tools. It’s similar to other technologies such as Azure App Service settings and Kubernetes etcd, but it could be applicable to more applications than those offerings because it can be leveraged by developers with SDKs for several coding stacks, including .NET, Java, Python, and Node.js.

Near-Term Roadmap (2026–2027)

Scorecards, in preview, use telemetry from deployed applications to help developers determine the effects of new or changed features, which are enabled using App Configuration’s feature flags feature. The telemetry is sent through Application Insights.

Long-Term Roadmap (Beyond 2027)

App Configuration, which became generally available in May 2019, is a mature service that isn’t expected to receive major changes. Possible updates include availability in more Azure regions and more integration with Azure Copilot to enable improved natural language interactivity with the service.
