Azure managed applications is a model for deploying application instances in Azure that remain under control of the application’s publisher. Managed applications can help IT departments maintain applications deployed by the organization’s business units and help software vendors and service providers manage applications on behalf of their customers.

Product: Azure Managed Applications

Near-Term Roadmap (2026–2027)

The Azure managed applications deployment model isn’t expected to receive short-term updates.

Long-Term Roadmap (Beyond 2027)

Azure managed applications, which became generally available in Nov. 2017, is a mature model that isn’t expected to receive major changes other than availability in more Azure regions.

Directions Recommends

Deploy third-party Azure-based applications as managed applications to allow third-party management of internal solutions. The delegation of management reduces burden on internal administration staff; however, this benefit should be weighed against the loss of control internal administrators will have over managed applications.
