RoadmapEdge Roadmap
Edge is Microsoft’s Web browser. Its share of browser traffic is small compared with that of Google Chrome, but Edge has an outsize presence among Microsoft 365 customers.
Product: Edge
Edge gets frequent updates, and in the near term, the updates will bring AI search and content generation, and management controls to keep those capabilities from leaking or damaging sensitive data. The browser will also deliver some changes to PDF handling and the WebGL graphics API, which could cause disruptions for some users and applications. For organizations, the most important Edge plans concern “Edge for Business”. Edge for Business is not a separate browser, but a feature set that turns on when the user signs in with an Entra ID P1 or P2 work or school account. Some features also require a Microsoft 365 Copilot user license.
Servicing and Support
Edge receives new Security and Quality Updates roughly weekly, and versions with new features appear every month. An organization typically updates production clients from the Stable channel, and tests Beta channel versions to get early warning of breaking changes in the next Stable version. Organizations that need extra time for testing can opt for the Extended Stable channel, which delivers Stable channel code but skips every other version. Dev and Canary channels provide weekly and daily builds for developers who want the earliest possible notice of compatibility problems and new features.
