Microsoft Foundry Agent Service provides a managed control plane for building, deploying, and operating AI agents that interact with enterprise systems and data. It standardizes agent life-cycle management, security boundaries, and observability while integrating with existing Microsoft AI and identity services. The service is intended for scalable, governed agent use in production environments and aligns with broader enterprise agent governance through integration with Agent 365.

Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026–2027)

In Mar. 2026, the Foundry Agent Service transitioned from preview to general availability (GA) of the core service and more (see Updates below), shifting focus to a production-ready enterprise platform for governed, scalable production deployment of AI agents, with security isolation, life-cycle control, and cost transparency. This development and runtime control plane is complemented by Agent 365, which extends enterprisewide governance, inventory, and compliance for agents across multiple environments and business systems.
