Azure Key Vault allows customers to manage and secure cryptographic keys and other application secrets securely within Azure.

Product: Key Vault

Licensing: Key Vault

Near-Term Roadmap (2026–2027)

No significant features have arrived in Key Vault since 2021.

In general, Key Vault is largely in maintenance mode and receives few updates other than integration of the service into new Azure services to enable secure key management, as well as enhancements to manageability, security, compliance, and auditing.

Role-based access control (RBAC) of Key Vault is now generally available and is the default access control model for newly created key vaults as of Feb. 2026. Customers should be working to migrate Key Vault to RBAC-based administration.

Deprecated and Retired Features

Azure Key Vault is deprecating older preview control-plane API versions other than the 2026-04-01-preview. Customers using any earlier preview control-plane API should immediately migrate to a newer version supported by Microsoft.
