Azure Managed Redis is an Azure-hosted, Microsoft-managed caching service built on Redis software. Redis is an open source, in-memory key-value data store that functions as a database, cache, and message broker. It supports a broad range of data structures, making it useful for real-time applications, session storage, and caching. Managed Redis is based on Redis Enterprise, a commercial offering from Redis (the company) that offers additional performance, availability, and security features compared with Redis Community Edition, the open source version. Managed Redis replaces Azure Cache for Redis, which is being retired, and supports newer Redis versions (7.4 with 8.0 planned), tighter Azure integration, and additional capabilities not offered by Cache for Redis.
