Power Automate is a visual application development environment for makers to develop simple to moderately complex workflows called flows. Flows can access internal and external systems to automate common processes that aren’t otherwise handled by solutions provided by internal IT teams or third parties. Prebuilt connectors let flows access Microsoft and external data sources, and organizations can build custom connectors to work with proprietary data sources and others for which connectors don’t exist.

Near-Term Roadmap (2026–2027)

Power Automate receives frequent updates that are announced and arrive in semiannual waves. Updates that arrived in 2026 bring improvements to licensing management, the flow designer, desktop flow automation, and the Process Mining feature, including the following:

Flow groups allow a Process license to be shared across up to 25 cloud flows within the same environment instead of one, as previously. This new feature can significantly reduce licensing costs in certain scenarios.
