Purview Data Governance, a part of the Microsoft Purview family of compliance and governance services, helps data professionals apply governance and security oversight to their data estates across a range of data sources in Azure, third-party clouds, and on premises. Governed data assets can include tables, views, AI models, and semantic models, among others.

Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026-2027)

Purview Data Governance is under active development, and new features are expected frequently. However, the company is rapidly adding and changing features and capabilities. 

Microsoft offers a limited near-term roadmap for Data Governance. However, customers may find the core feature set still lagging behind some competitors, and the roadmap and the company’s delivery slow to address these shortcomings.
