SignalR Service is a managed service for adding live communication capabilities to .NET applications without building and operating dedicated messaging infrastructure. It’s useful when applications must keep many users or devices continuously connected, including AI-enabled capabilities that stream responses, status, or notifications as work progresses. The service can simplify development and operations, but Microsoft hasn’t made major recent improvements.

Near-Term Roadmap (Mid-2026–2027)

Microsoft hasn’t indicated a major roadmap, pricing model change, retirement, or ecosystem expansion for SignalR Service, suggesting stability but limited strategic value. Although it remains a viable Azure service for real-time application updates, it’s not central to Microsoft’s current AI, agent, data, or security strategy. Treat the service as mature infrastructure: any commitment should be based on proven workload need.

Organizations should review and assess SignalR Service dependencies and validate scale and cost exposure. They should review annually, modernize unsupported workloads, and require clear ownership, cost monitoring, fallback plans, and documented support status.
