RoadmapWeb PubSub
Web PubSub is a general service for adding live communication capabilities to custom applications without building and operating dedicated messaging infrastructure. It’s useful when applications must keep many users or devices continuously connected, including AI-enabled capabilities that stream responses, status, or notifications as work progresses. The service can simplify development and operations, but it overlaps with the Azure SignalR communications service for .NET technologies.

Near-Term Roadmap (Mid-2026–2027)
Web PubSub remains a viable option for live application communication. However, the Q1 2026 update to the Web PubSub service was the first in 18 months (Q3 2024), suggesting investment in the platform has slowed.
Although the recent update indicates renewed investment in scale, resiliency, developer productivity, and increased protocol support, these are incremental changes and don’t indicate a major change in the direction of the platform. Furthermore, several features from 2024 remain in preview with no announced date for general availability.
