Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management roadmap since the Jan. 2008 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • Planned service packs for Configuration Manager 2007, Operations Manager 2007, and other recent System Center products will enable those products to manage and run on Windows Server 2008. Most earlier System Center products will not run on Windows Server 2008, but some will be updated to manage systems running the new OS.
  • Service packs were announced for Forefront Security for SharePoint Server, Forefront Client Security, and other Forefront products to enable those products to protect and run on Windows Server 2008. Most earlier Forefront products will not run on or protect Windows Server 2008, and will not be updated for that OS.
  • Identity Lifecycle Manager 2007 will not be supported on Windows Server 2008, Microsoft has announced; its successor, code-named Identity Lifecycle Manager 2, will probably be the first version of the product to run on the new
