Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management, security, and identity management roadmap since the June 2010 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • An Aug. 2010 release candidate appeared for Configuration Manager 2007 R3, which, among other features, allows organizations to deploy, monitor, and enforce PC power settings.
  • Service Manager received several add-ons: an authoring guide in June 2010; an IT governance, risk, and compliance pack in July 2010; and a Service Manager Configuration pack (used for setting up and monitoring Service Manager itself) in July 2010.
  • The next version of Opalis datacenter automation software, Opalis 6.3, will be available in the fourth quarter of 2010 and will include support for the latest Microsoft OSs as well as integration packs for most System Center products.
  • A free Virtual Machine Manager self-service portal, released in Aug. 2010, allows organizations to use centralized Hyper-V virtual machines and delegate their provisioning
