Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management, security, and identity management roadmap since the Sept. 2011 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • New versions of all products in the System Center line were expected in late 2011 but have been delayed until the first half of 2012; all products in System Center 2012 are now available as betas or release candidates.
  • A release candidate of Virtual Machine Manager 2012 became available in Sept. 2011.
  • A beta of Data Protection Manager was released in Sept. 2011.
  • Release candidates of Configuration Manager 2012 and Orchestrator 2012 and betas of App Controller 2012 and Service Manager 2012 appeared in Oct. 2011.
  • Reporting Manager 2006 (which has been replaced by Service Manager) left Mainstream support in Oct. 2011.
  • The Desktop Optimization Pack 2011 R2 was released in Aug. 2011 with a new BitLocker management tool and updates to Asset Inventory Service and the Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset.
