A new release of Navision from the Microsoft Business Solutions Group allows customers to purchase warehouse management features in a more modular fashion and improves the product’s user interface. The release also signals a move toward better integration with other Microsoft products by improving support for Outlook. Microsoft is proceeding with such integration cautiously, however: for example, the company will continue to offer Navision’s proprietary database option for the foreseeable future (although customers can use SQL Server to store Navision data).

More Licensing Options

The Navision product, acquired in Microsoft’s purchase of Danish software company Navision in July 2002, is an accounting and business management package for mid-size businesses (defined as having less than 1,000 employees and less than US$800 million in annual revenue). Microsoft also offers a lower-priced edition of the product, called Navision Standard, aimed at companies with annual revenues of less than US$25 million or those requiring fewer than 10 licensed users.
