Azure Purview, released to general availability on Sept. 28, 2021, is a centralized cloud registry of enterprise data sources to help data governance and compliance. Based on the open-source Apache Atlas application, Purview provides database scanning, classification, and data lineage across on-premises and cloud databases. Unlike its predecessor, Azure Data Catalog, which is no longer under active development, Purview supports data sources on-premises and in multiple clouds.
