Power BI introduces phone-specific visualizations and dashboards that are optimized for the smaller screen size of phones, through recent updates to Power BI Desktop and Power BI mobile apps. Power BI Desktop (part of the Power BI business intelligence product family) is a free-to-download Windows desktop reporting design tool built on data query and visualization features from Excel.

New phone-specific interactive capabilities help users analyze and work with dashboards and visualizations on phones more easily, and the visualizations can take advantage of phone capabilities, such as GPS, QR code readers, barcode scanners, and cameras to automatically filter and select data. For example, field service personnel might use Power BI mobile apps with the phone-specific visualizations to view performance metrics of equipment at their current locations. The features may help reduce the need to write custom phone applications; however, there are limitations and writing phone-specific visualizations may result in duplicate visualizations that require independent maintenance.
