Analyst ReportAIP Labeling Enabled on Devices
Office applications on Android, iOS, and macOS now include AIP labeling capabilities. AIP allows organizations to discover, classify, label, and protect sensitive data to help comply with confidentiality, privacy, and disclosure policies and regulations. As shown here, a user editing a document on Word for iOS can label and protect content using the toolbar built into Word. The addition of labeling capabilities to Office on iOS, Android, and macOS devices makes it more likely that users will label sensitive data across all of the platforms they might need to use and continues Microsoft’s push to enable features from the Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) suite across Office applications beyond Windows.
The capabilities are available in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word across all three platforms. The capabilities are available in Outlook for macOS and are expected to arrive in Outlook for iOS and Android in the first half of 2019.
Use of this feature requires a license for Azure Information Protection Premium P2 (or the EMS E5 suite, which includes it). Users may need some training to familiarize them with the new labeling capabilities. Customers interested in test-driving the capability can sign up for an EMS E5 trial tenancy.
