Compliance and data governance offerings are being rebranded “Microsoft Purview.” Purview, previously the name of an Azure service used to catalog, map, and analyze data sources, will expand to include Microsoft 365 compliance services as well. For example, the Microsoft 365 Compliance Center will become the Microsoft Purview Compliance Portal and Microsoft 365 Audit will become Microsoft Purview Audit, as shown in the accompanying diagram. In addition, the “Basic” and “Advanced” tiering used for certain services (Audit, eDiscovery) will be replaced with “Standard” and “Premium,” but there are no functional changes. No other licensing or packaging changes are currently planned: the Microsoft 365–based services will continue to be licensed on a monthly per-user basis, and the Azure data governance service will continue to be licensed on a consumption basis. Microsoft’s privacy management service, Priva, is not affected by the Purview announcement. Microsoft’s announcement is at https://www.microsoft.com/security/blog/2022/04/19/the-future-of-compliance-and-data-governance-is-here-introducing-microsoft-purview/.
