RoadmapAzure Storage Roadmap
Azure Storage is a scalable object storage platform that offers several nonrelational data storage services for use with Azure applications and databases, traditional file shares, and other workloads deployed on Azure and on-premises.
Product: Azure Storage
Near Term (2025–2026)
Several previously introduced features, such as Storage Actions, continue to roll out to additional regions.
In addition, new enhancements in preview include:
- Storage Discovery, a new feature intended to provide enterprise-wide visibility on how storage is used
- Support for NFSv3 (also known as BlobNFS) helps increase reliability for Linux clients accessing Azure Blob Storage
- Encryption-in-transit via NFS.
Long Term (Beyond 2026)
Storage is not only a critical part of enterprise IT infrastructure but it is also a major source of revenue for Azure. So, Microsoft has every incentive to continue to expand its storage and backup portfolio.
However, Tables and Queues are some of Microsoft’s earliest Azure products, and although they are not technically retired, they are not getting any ongoing investment.
