Azure DevOps is a set of Microsoft-hosted software development services. Customers can use any subset of the services, and they work with non-Microsoft technologies such as Linux, macOS, and various development frameworks and programming languages. The offering overlaps with GitHub, which is gaining capabilities at a faster rate and will likely eventually supplant Azure DevOps. However, it is unlikely that Azure DevOps will become deprecated for several years.

Near Term (2025–2026)

Minor updates continue to arrive, mostly to address customer feedback. For example, Test Plans has received tweaks to capabilities for working with test cases; Boards work items have improved GitHub integration; and Repos can display differences in Jupyter notebook versions.

Near-term plans for DevOps are minimal as Microsoft focuses on GitHub, and customers should not expect major changes to the service. However, there is little short-term risk of Azure DevOps becoming deprecated or discontinued in favor of GitHub.
