The first service pack for Service Manager 2010, available Dec. 2010, contains no new features—just bug fixes, additional language support, and compatibility with SQL Server 2008 R2. Service Manager 2010 is Microsoft’s help desk product for trouble ticketing and problem resolution that integrates with Operations Manager, Configuration Manager, and other System Center products. In addition to more than 500 fixes, SP1 integrates tools and languages into a single release that can install the full product, including SP1, or be used to upgrade an existing installation. Microsoft reports that SP1 addresses many customer requests, and the additional languages bring Service Manager into line with other System Center products.

New Languages, Single Slipstreamed Release

System Center Service Manager provides a trouble ticketing system; a user self-service portal to handle tasks such as password resets, access permission requests, and recovery of deleted files; and a workflow engine for automating certain types of IT processes such as equipment installation or access approval. The first version of the product was released in Apr. 2010 and received several add-ons in mid-2010. An Authoring Tool was released in June 2010; an IT governance, risk, and compliance management pack was released in July 2010; and a configuration management pack (used for setting up and monitoring Service Manager itself) was released in July 2010. Three cumulative updates (CUs) also provided fixes.
