Foundry Models is Microsoft’s service for accessing and managing AI models from Microsoft and other providers, like Meta, Anthropic, and Black Forest, through a common platform. It helps organizations standardize how AI models are selected, deployed, and governed, removing model and vendor dependencies and reducing the complexity of managing different AI technologies. This promotes greater control over AI cost, risk, compliance, and quality.

Near-Term Roadmap (2026–2027)
The Foundry Models service is becoming Microsoft’s supply chain for enterprise AI, sourcing, governing, and managing AI models across applications and agents. It addresses the growing challenge of controlling AI cost, risk, quality, and vendor dependency as AI adoption expands. Microsoft is investing heavily in broader model choice, model-routing capabilities, governance, and tighter integration with the Azure AI ecosystem, signaling model selection as a business decision rather than a developer’s choice. Continued improvement to the Model Router may remove the need for users to choose models at all and instead rely on which agent they’re using for the task.
