New capabilities in May 2010 product releases require upgrades of both clients and servers. Shown here are Office, Project, SharePoint Server, SQL Server, and Visio versions that shipped in May 2010, and a selection of the most important relationships among them and other recently released product versions. Some product versions have prerequisites (solid lines). For example, Windows Server 2008 or later (x64) is a prerequisite for Exchange Server 2010. Other product versions have feature interactions (dashed lines): an organization must upgrade both products to implement some new feature. In general, organizations that want all the new features of the product versions shown will need to deploy all of the versions, although each version has some benefits if deployed on its own.

Two key prerequisites are shown at the bottom: Windows Server 2008 (x64) and SQL Server 2005 (x64). Project Server 2010 and SharePoint 2010 require x64 editions of these or later versions. Exchange Server 2010 requires the x64 edition of Windows Server 2008 (or later).
