Charts & IllustrationsAzure RemoteApp Integration
Azure RemoteApp can provide users with an application experience that is very similar to on-premises desktops. In this diagram, the potential integration of the Azure RemoteApp service (right) with on-premises resources (left) is shown.
The user (1), who could be on-premises or mobile, launches the Microsoft Remote Desktop client from an Apple iPad and enters Azure RemoteApp credentials. The first time this is done, the list of applications that their administrator has published from the service is provided to the user’s Remote Desktop client. The user selects an application, such as Microsoft Word, from this list by clicking on the appropriate icon.
The Remote Desktop client connects to the Azure RemoteApp server farm and logs the user on (2) with the user’s Azure Active Directory credentials. The application is launched (3) on the Azure RemoteApp server farm.
Taking advantage of a virtual private network (VPN) connection established by the administrator from Azure to the on-premises network (4), the user can open a file from an on-premises Windows file server (5), which is available as if the user were on-premises.
