Stack HCI 21H2, released in Oct. 2021, is the most recent version of Stack HCI available and will be supported until late 2023. The next version of Stack HCI is likely to be Stack HCI 22H2 with general availability in late 2022. Stack HCI 20H2, delivered in Dec. 2020, will leave support in late 2022.

Stack HCI is a subscription-based product, billed to an organization’s Azure subscription. Organizations must use a supported version of Stack HCI with a persistent connection to Azure for billing purposes in order to retain functionality.

Stack HCI follows a Modern Lifecyle Policy that is different from the policies of Windows Server and the Windows Client OS, which are serviced on the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) and the Semi-Annual Channel (SAC). Stack HCI versions are delivered annually as feature updates in the second half of the calendar year and come with two years (24 months) of support after release. This time frame gives customers up to one year to deploy a new version of Stack HCI before the previous version will leave support.
