CAL suites deliver Client Access Licenses (CALs) and other licenses for PCs and similar clients. The suites include CALs for Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, Skype for Business Server, and Windows Server, and security and management licenses for clients. Shown here are the components of the Core CAL Suite and Enterprise CAL Suite as of Dec. 2015. Both suite licenses must initially be purchased with Software Assurance (SA), a subscription that provides rights to new product versions and other benefits.

Core CAL Suite

The Exchange Server Standard CAL licenses access to the e-mail, calendar, and other basic Exchange features.

The SharePoint Server Standard CAL licenses access to collaboration, corporate portal, organization-wide search, and most document management features.

The Skype for Business Server Standard CAL licenses instant messaging, presence, and participation in, but not initiation of, conferences. (Skype for Business Server was formerly Lync Server.)

The Windows Server CAL licenses access to all the OS’s built-in capabilities except for Remote Desktop Services and Rights Management Services.
