Visual Studio 2010 will support development for new platforms and emerging development trends. Expected in late 2009, Visual Studio 2010 will deliver support for Windows 7 and the .NET Framework 4 application development, tools for optimizing development for parallel computing environments, and support for implementing applications for Microsoft’s Windows Azure application hosting service and SharePoint. The Visual Studio 2010 integrated development environment will be built upon Windows Presentation Foundation, which will give it a new look, and it will be more extensible than previous versions.
Visual Studio Team System 2010, expected in late 2009, adds new modeling and testing capabilities. Code architecture can be modeled with Unified Modeling Language diagrams, enforced, validated, and viewed graphically to make the structure of a project more understandable. Testers can snapshot the environment where a bug occurs so that it can be easily reproduced for debugging. Test cases can be written before the code to be tested has been completed, and a new tool helps testers determine which cases should be rerun when code is changed.
