Dynamics AX will receive multiple updates in 2014. The Dynamics AX unit hopes to deliver updates on a more predictable schedule than in the past, shipping new features or new versions at least once a year. The unit also plans minor enhancements and bug fixes through cumulative updates (CUs; not shown) at least twice a year.

New companion apps have appeared in app stores for mobile expense reporting, timecard entry, and workflow approval on Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows RT tablets as well as Windows Phone, iOS, and Android smartphones.

The next minor version of Dynamics AX, shown as Dynamics AX 2012 R3 here, will probably arrive in the second quarter of 2014. Expected in this release are new capabilities for warehouse and distribution functions, an improved demand planning and forecasting component that leverages SQL Server and Excel analytic capabilities, retail point-of-sale mobile solutions, procurement features to manage vendor requests and proposals, and budget planning improvements such as rule-based allocations and what-if scenarios.
