Charts & IllustrationsOneNote Sections and Folders
OneNote organizes notes in a system of sections and pages, all of which are accessible from a single user interface. Here, a user has created separate notebook sections for notes taken during group meetings, briefings, lectures, and phone interviews. Although each notebook section is stored as a separate .ONE file in the My Notebook folder on the user’s hard drive, all are accessible by clicking tabs at the top of the screen. Users can then apply functions, such as text searches (shown in the box in the upper-right corner), across all notebook sections. It is possible to store .ONE files in different folders, but as soon as the files are opened, a shortcut will automatically be created in the My Notebook folder and the appropriate tab will appear in the same OneNote interface. If the screen gets too cluttered with notebook sections, users can close individual sections just as they’d close any other type of file (by right-clicking or selecting “Close” from the File menu) and the tab will disappear from the screen.
