Content Management Server (CMS) has been essentially replaced by SharePoint Server 2007 and the SharePoint Designer tool. This chart outlines life cycle support dates as well as initial release and service pack histories for recent versions of Content Management Server (CMS). (Note that the original CMS 2002 was renamed CMS Enterprise Edition when CMS 2002 Standard Edition was released in Oct. 2003.)

The life cycle support dates for CMS 2002 now align with those of SharePoint Portal Server 2003, the previous version of SharePoint Server. Customers with current CMS upgrade rights can generally convert CMS licenses to licenses for SharePoint Server and SharePoint Designer, but existing CMS sites will not migrate automatically.
