​A series of Microsoft products are scheduled to leave support in Oct. 2025, with additional retirements in 2026, causing a mass extinction of on-premises software.

This chart shows the support timeline of several Microsoft offerings as they reach their end-of-support dates. Each product is listed on the left, grouped into either client or server software. The light gray bars show products in Mainstream support; darker bars show products in Extended support; black bars show products subject to the Modern Lifecycle. Some software may experience degraded functionality due to combinations of offerings being dropped from support, even while the products themselves are still supported.

The chart shows five major support events that will occur through 2026:

  1. Oct. 2023, when Office 2019 leaves Mainstream support, marking the date when Office 2016 and 2019 are no longer guaranteed connectivity to Office 365 services such as SharePoint Online.
