Summary of VB.NET Changes

My Atlas / Charts & Illustrations

818 wordsTime to read: 9 min

This chart presents many of the changes to the VB language between VB6 and VB.NET. The changes are grouped into four categories: major new features, other new features, changed language features, and discarded language features. The first two sections list new features that will have an impact on writing new code or rewriting old code. The last two sections list changed features that will impact migrating old code to VB.NET. For the major new features, we have also stated the impact of the feature that makes it especially noteworthy. This list does not cover the many new features in the class libraries or Visual Studio.NET that will also affect VB programmers, nor is it exhaustive with regard to all the VB syntax changes. It should, however, give the reader an approximation of the scope of changes that have been made in the VB.NET implementation.
