Azure Analysis Services (AAS) is a cloud analytics service based on  SQL Server Analysis Services that provides business intelligence (BI) semantic modeling. The service is used for analytical processing and data mining of large, complex datasets to guide business decisions. The service can be deployed quickly, scaled to meet demand, and paused when not in use to control costs. It includes most features available in the full version of Analysis Services, although it does not support multidimensional models.

Near Term (2025–2026)

Most significant advancements in the underlying service stopped at the end of 2020, when Microsoft stated it was focusing on Analysis Services in Power BI. However, the service continues to receive new links to other Azure services like the new OneLake environment, and the core Analysis Services engine which has been updated to SQL Server 2025 being released in late 2025.
