RoadmapData Share Roadmap
Azure Data Share is a managed service for distributing data to customers, partners, and other business units that also use Azure. It replaces custom file-transfer processes with an invitation-based service that tracks sharing relationships and can deliver full or incremental data snapshots. However, both parties need Azure subscriptions, only selected Azure data stores are supported, and most sharing creates another copy of the data.

Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026–2027)
Data Share is a mature, narrowly focused service with no significant product-specific features on Microsoft’s published Azure roadmap.
Snapshot sharing remains limited to Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL Database, and selected Azure Synapse Analytics resources. In-place sharing, which lets consumers query current data without copying it, remains limited to Azure Data Explorer.
