OneDrive (formerly OneDrive for Business) provides hosted file storage and sharing for Microsoft 365 users and for on-premises deployments. The service includes the storage itself and a client-side synchronization engine that accesses the files from multiple platforms. The hosted version, Microsoft OneDrive, is an Office 365 service. The on-premises version relies on SharePoint Server SE.

The following improvements are planned for 2026:
Copilot in OneDrive (for the cloud) continues receiving improvements, but new features are slowing down. Rolling out is the ability to review PDFs using the Copilot context menu and AI actions. The Office agents from Anthropic create a folder in OneDrive for their output.
Administrative updates will help admins manage the sprawl of agents and M365 Copilot features with controls and reporting. Additional updates focus on securing content:
