Planner is a task and project management tool included in most Microsoft 365 suites. Planner provides task, planning, and project management tools. The current iteration of Planner, sometimes called New Planner, delivers the following services:

Basic plans provide group plan and task management based on the original Planner service.

Premium plans provide project management including scheduling, resource management, and portfolio management, based on the former Project for the Web service.

Most capabilities of Planner basic plans are included with Microsoft 365 and Office 365 Licenses. A series of separate licenses (Planner Plan 1, Planner and Project Plan 3, Planner and Project Plan 5) delivers premium plans and a few features for basic plans. A Planner agent (formerly the Project Manager agent), which can execute tasks, generate status reports, and create plans, is included for users with Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses.
