The System Center product line supports computer and network configuration, monitoring, analysis, and other administrative tasks. Most products are not available separately but must be licensed as part of a suite. All System Center 2012 R2 products will run on Windows Server 2012 R2, 2012 SP1, and 2012, and all except Virtual Machine Manager will also run on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. All products can use PowerShell 3.0 or later.
Current System Center products are as follows:
Advisor is a Web-based online application with a Silverlight user interface that is designed to help prevent common server misconfiguration issues and quickly resolve issues when they occur. Advisor proactively scans information from servers, including updates, event logs, security settings, and other configuration settings, and then recommends appropriate remediation or tuning actions. Advisor works with Windows Server, SQL Server, Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, and Lync Server.
App Controller* is a management portal that interfaces to Virtual Machine Manager and Windows Azure. It allows organizations to delegate computing resource management to business units using either centralized Hyper-V virtual machines on-premises or on Windows Azure, while still allowing central monitoring by IT administrators.
