A new user profiling system and digital media capabilities are among the features planned for the next version of Xbox, code-named Xenon. Microsoft also confirmed some rumors about Xenon’s basic hardware specifications, even as leaks from developers painted a far more detailed picture. However, Xenon information such as its exact hardware specifications, pricing, release date, and name will remain a mystery until the May 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), and perhaps longer. Microsoft has also enlisted several high-profile Japanese game developers to create exclusives for Xenon and announced a forthcoming game development tool based on Visual Studio 2005 Team System.
Profiling, New Digital Media Support
Xenon has been the subject of rumors and leaks for well over a year, and game development kits have reportedly been shipping for several months. Speaking at the Mar. 2005 Game Developers’ Conference (GDC), Xbox Vice President J Allard finally confirmed some of these rumors and also revealed additional information about the forthcoming console.
