Analyst ReportDynamics 365 Commerce Adds Lower-Cost Import Options
- New Commerce licensing options (called Headless) can lower the cost of processing and importing transactions.
- Headless Orchestration is for use with third-party front ends, like Shopify, where customers need some D365 Commerce capabilities but not the e-Commerce storefront.
- Headless Import is for scenarios where a legacy point-of-sale system resides, and import requirements are simple.
- The licensing options provide no new features and do not remove other licensing requirements.
New Dynamics 365 Commerce licensing options, Headless Import and Headless Orchestration, are designed for organizations that want to use D365 as a back-end retail solution but don’t need the Dynamics 365 e-Commerce storefront or an on-premises (in-store) deployment. The new options can reduce costs by up to 90% compared with the previous e-Commerce Tiers and Standalone Commerce Scale Unit (CSU) subscriptions.
The Previous Problem: Limited, Expensive Options
The Commerce Scale Unit (CSU) is the back-end engine for Dynamics 365 Commerce retail functionality and is critical for retailers who want to use the Commerce features or integrate with other Dynamics 365 modules, such as Supply Chain Management and Finance. CSUs can be deployed in the cloud or on-premises and provide access to retail capabilities like real-time inventory and loyalty cards, processing transactions, and sending transactions back to a central Dynamics 365 Commerce deployment for further processing, such as order fulfillment and financial close.
