The recently introduced Management Reporter is to replace the FRx and Forecaster financial reporting and planning products by 2012, according to a plan announced at the Mar. 2009 Dynamics Convergence conference. The plan should cheer accountants and other financial professionals who want to design financial reports and manage budgets using the Dynamics enterprise resource planning (ERP) products. However, Management Reporter will not match all the capabilities of FRx and Forecaster, opening a window for other vendors. (See the sidebar “Past FRx and Forecaster Versions“.)

Reporting, Budgets for Financial Professionals

Management Reporter is slated to take over the role of two Dynamics products:

FRx helps accounting professionals build customized financial reports from data in companies’ general ledger systems and can distribute reports as e-mail and HTML documents. FRx is designed specifically for financial professionals creating standard reports, such as balance sheets and cash flow statements, and is simpler to use for that purpose than more generic reporting solutions, such as SQL Server Reporting Services. The product had more than 115,000 customers. FRx’s most recent release was FRx 6.7, which shipped in Mar. 2004.
