Fabric for GCC and GCC High Is Imminent

Fabric, Microsoft’s data and analytics platform, is finally in public preview for US Government Community Cloud (GCC) and GCC High customers with general availability (GA) expected on Oct. 1, 2026. However, the initial release is missing several capabilities available in the commercial release, and it’s unlikely the GCC release will ever reach parity. Customers should test workload fit and compliance requirements before adoption. The release isn’t available for US Department of Defense (DoD) use; there’s no projected date for DoD.

The gaps (during preview) are significant, and it’s unclear which of these will be resolved before GA. Database mirroring is limited to SQL Database, and there are other missing and unsupported features:

• Private Link
• Customer-managed keys
• Outbound access protection
• Workspace identity
• OneLake disaster recovery
• Fabric monitoring
• Fabric IQ.

Organizations that require these controls and features should confirm whether the GA release can meet their security and operational requirements. Unlike the commercial version, there are no free licenses or trials available, so prototyping or testing Fabric requires new budget.
