Analyst ReportHyper-V Changes Server Virtualization Options
The first feature-complete release candidate of Microsoft’s hypervisor-based virtualization platform, which will be included in 64-bit editions of Windows Server 2008, was released in Mar. 2008 for public testing. Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V and its stand-alone counterpart, Hyper-V Server, will allow Microsoft to compete for the production and consolidation hardware virtualization market. However, Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, expected to be available six months after the release of Windows Server 2008 (or approximately Aug. 2008), will be the first generation of Microsoft’s hypervisor-based virtualization platform.
