Analyst ReportLatest C++ Addresses Performance, Standards
Visual Studio (VS) 2012 delivers Microsoft’s latest revision of the C++ programming language, Visual C++ 2012. The new version adds features to conform to the ISO C++11 specification and elements that could help developers build better performing applications that take advantage of graphics processing units (GPUs) and parallel hardware. VS 2012 also includes improved C++ tools in its integrated development environment (IDE), some of which bring capabilities to C++ that were previously only available to other languages. The updates reinforce the position of C++ in software development, but taking advantage of the improvements is likely to require new code.
C++ Brings Power, Flexibility, Windows Store App Support
The C++ language has been a top developer choice for more than two decades for applications requiring high performance and flexible control over computing resources such as memory and low-level hardware functionality. C++ is often the best option for solutions such as games, device drivers, scientific applications, embedded systems, and shared runtime libraries like DLLs. Traditional Windows desktop applications (such as Microsoft Office) are frequently written in C++. Microsoft supports C++ as a native (unmanaged) language and as a managed language running on the .NET Framework Common Language Runtime (CLR) using C++/CLI.
