Analyst ReportMore Browser Support for Dynamics CRM
Update Rollup 12 (UR12) shipped Jan. 29, 2013, for the Dynamics CRM 2011 software and is rolling out to Dynamics CRM Online service customers with other improvements. The Dynamics CRM on-premises software and Microsoft-hosted service help workers manage sales, customer service, and marketing and provide an application platform for other business processes, such as logistics and recruiting. The recent updates deliver a browser interface that works with Macs and with Windows browsers other than Internet Explorer (IE), which will extend Dynamics CRM’s reach to more platforms and simplify its deployment. However, the updates could break some user interface customizations.
UR12 Extends Browser Reach, Enhances Developer Platform
The most important improvement in UR12 is a new browser interface that works with the Firefox, Chrome, and Safari browsers, including Safari on Macs. Dynamics CRM does not have a stand-alone desktop client; users normally access it through the browser interface or through an Outlook plug-in that relies on content delivered by the browser interface. Expanding browser compatibility will enable Mac users to work with Dynamics CRM, but it should also simplify maintenance of Dynamics CRM clients on Windows, since organizations that have standardized on a browser other than IE will not have to maintain IE for Dynamics CRM.
