  • The Power BI hosted service has introduced further enterprise management features that provide on-premises-like control.
  • Design tools continue to receive monthly updates with a focus on developer productivity and data modeling improvements.
  • The Premium service is growing into a one-stop offering with high-end data modeling and integration features.
  • Hybrid is still an option, but not for long, as on-premises components are falling behind the hosted service.

Power BI is Microsoft’s business intelligence (BI) offering that contains several tightly integrated software and Microsoft-hosted components. They include hosted services and an on-premises server, report design tools, and client-side applications, which are used collectively to create and share reports, dashboards, and other forms of BI. Overall, the team is releasing capabilities that will benefit large enterprises and ISVs, but most of the updates are limited to the high-end offerings.
