PowerPivot Strengthens Analytics in Excel, SharePoint 2010
SQL Server 2012 delivers a more powerful and flexible version of the PowerPivot for Excel 2010 add-in and PowerPivot for SharePoint Server 2010 add-in. Like its predecessors available since May 2010, PowerPivot enables expert users to create and process large data sets (called models) embedded in Excel workbooks to analyze the data to look for patterns, track business metrics, or perform other BI tasks. This new version of PowerPivot adds functionality to make model creation and sharing easier. The new version also underlies the new Power View functionality included in SQL Server 2012, which is intended to make the information within PowerPivot workbooks more approachable to all users. (See the chapter “Power View Delivers Self-Service Data Visualizations“.)
